Cuckoo clocks originally come from Germany.
The first Black Forest Clock was made in the year 1640, not far away from the village of Titisee. Over the years clockmakers from the Black Forest refined and developed these clocks till they had the high-quality Black Forest cuckoo clock we know today - e.g. the patented water-clock, where the mill-wheel is actually driven by water! Or clocks with figures, set into motion by the clock mechanism and depicting the traditional trades of the Black Forest area. We even have an annual limited edition clock, which was specially designed for us and can be bought in the Black Forest Clock Center.
